A)  Locker Assignments:  All high school students are strongly encouraged to purchase their own combination or padlock or else rent combination locks from the school.  School rented locks go for a $5 deposit charge which will be returned at the end of the school year once the lock in returned to the office during the last week of school.

B)  Grading SystemFive separate sections in four different settings within the class time during Physical Education for the 2008-09 school year.

    1.  Homework and Quizzes.  10% of quarter grade and to be assigned once or twice per month.  This will related articles or assignments such as fitness logs including activities in the gym, outside field facilities, in the locker room for bulletin board material and exercise in the weight room.  Must be turned in on due date or credit for work will not be received.  No late assignments will be accepted.

    2.  Responsibility.  20% of quarter grade for class attendance and warm up for in the gym and outside.  Are you prompt and punctual in proper P.E. clothing and shoes?  Also for in the locker room for up keep, tidiness and locking things up in your locker.  Mrs. Hayden will swing through in the late morning for updates on the girls' side.  15% of quarter grade for cleanliness and picking up after ourselves in the weight room.

    3. Attitude.    25% of quarter grade for class participation in the gym and outside.  30% of your grade in the weight room.  Do you have a good attitude?  Do you respect yourself, others and the equipment we are using?  Are you a teamwork person?  Do you display good sportsmanship? 

    4.  Hustle.  25% of quarter grade for willingness to learn, take risks and get as much out of your natural ability as you can.  Do you have time for fun?  30% of your grade in the weight room for tempo, recording everything you lift, moving onto the next exercise with the initiative to get as much accomplished as class time allows.

    5.  Skills and Technique.  20% of quarter grade for talent, skills displayed and improvement shown.  Fitness and skills testing, measurements and evaluations of your abilities in the lessons and units all will be a factor in your grade.  25% of your grade in the weight room for amounts lifted compared to your body weight and for improvement shown through the weeks of progression and consistent application of correct techniques. 

 

Mr. STOEN'S  HIGH SCHOOL P.E.  ATTITUDE PHILOSOPHIES

1.  Dress for class ready in a timely fashion.  bring your tennis shoes, appropriate workout clothing and bring your best attitude.  this has been very good this past decade.

FOCUS:  Forehand and backhand techniques with the grip.  Familiarization with the birdie.  1 racquet and 1 birdie per player.  The correct terminology for the birdie is a shuttlecock.  We'll open with the students alternating with forehand and backhand hits and go to 10 and 20.  We'll progress to walking while hitting the birdie, alternately forehand and backhand.  Finally, when ready for games we will address stance and footwork

SOFTBALL UNIT: 

FOCUS:  Gripping, throwing & catching the ball.  Students will need 1 glove per player, 1 softball per player and ultimately 1 softball per two players when playing catch.  We will explain the full-hand grip and the two-finger grip snapping the wrist.  Overhand throwing standing with your nonthrowing shoulder to the target and your feet comfortably apart.  Once evidence of skill mastery then we will move to throwing and catching on the move.

THROWING & CATCHING LEAD-UPS:  1.  25-Up     2.  Around the World

FOCUS:  Fielding ground balls.  Students will position themselves so they are directly in front of the oncoming ball.  They can kneel on 1 knee or just "sit" (get glove under ball with head & eyes low).  partner tasks will include throwing the ball to each other, making it bounce once, twice or more, progressing as skill mastery is evident.
