Position Summary:
The Head Cook is responsible for leading daily kitchen operations, ensuring timely preparation and service of high-quality, nutritious meals to students. This position works with food service staff, ensures food safety, and coordinates meal planning and preparation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare, cook, and serve hot and cold food for breakfast and lunch according to established menus and nutrition guidelines.
Prepare daily menu and special diet prep lists
Serve meals in a timely, attractive, and pleasant manner.
Works with kitchen staff to maintain sanitation and cleanliness in the kitchen, serving areas, and storage rooms.
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local food safety and sanitation regulations.
Complete daily production records and maintain accurate inventory and usage logs.
Determine appropriate quantities of food to prepare, minimizing waste while ensuring all students are served.
Operate and maintain kitchen equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Adapt to changes in menu or staffing and manage kitchen duties accordingly.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior experience in food service or kitchen supervision preferred.
Knowledge of USDA meal pattern requirements and nutrition guidelines.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Ability to work independently and manage a team.
ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to complete certification upon hire.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
